Cavs Newsletter: Volume 1, Issue 3

The Cavs drive toward another National Championship ended as they fell in the Sweet Sixteen of the National Tournament against Northwood (Fla.) University. The remarkable season came to a halt as the Cavs finished with a record of 26-5 and for the fourth year in a row they won the AMC Championship and earned a trip to the National Tournament in Branson, Missouri.

In the first round game against Judson, the Cavaliers ran away with the game, winning 91-57. Kyelce Cescato led all players with 20 points and 11 rebounds. Eder Araujo added 17 points, Corey Jones 16 points (4-6 from 3), and Brandon Speck and Joe Shardo both chipped in 10 points. Brandon Weems dished out a game-high seven assists.

Against Northwood, the Cavs just could not get things going in losing to Northwood 66-59. Walsh led 30-28 at the half but could not find the range from the outside going 8-27 from the 3-point line for the game after leading the NAIA in 3-point shooting during the season. The Cavs stretched the lead to eight at 48-40 with 11:34 to play but would not be able to withstand a late charge by the Seahawks and lost the lead for good with 6:32 to play. Eder Araujo led the Cavs with 19 points and 8 rebounds.

This game was the last for the four seniors: Brandon Weems, Corey Jones, Eder Araujo, and Kevin Stingel who leave behind four years filled with championships, and records. They will be missed but with other key returning players Josh Johnson, Kyelce Cescato, Joe & Jeremy Shardo, Lamar Skeeter, Brandon Speck, Eric Love, and Ryan Butler, the Cavs hope to avenge this year’s early exit. Stay tuned...
